Using the CPS Bookstore Model to Deliver a Quiz or Exam

Note

When delivering a quiz or exam, CPS uses Student Managed Assessment mode, which allows students to work at their own pace. You should prepare a prinout of the questions used in the quiz/exam to hand out to students as they will not be able to see the questions on the projector screen using this mode.

Setting up CPS for the Quiz or Exam

Tip

It is a good idea to check to make sure you have properly set up the system and updated your CPS roster prior to engaging your quiz/exam. See Setting up the CPS in the Classroom and Establishing the Link between the CPS Software and myWPI for information on how to do this.

  1. From the Engage tab, select the quiz/test you plan to deliver from the database file. Then click to expand the Asessment Setup menu.
  2. Click Student Paced.
  3. click Advanced. Enter in the number of points possible and check to include the quiz in your CPS gradebook so that you can upload to myWPI.
  4. Be sure it says your class roster next to Class. If it does not, select it from the list.
  5. Click Engage Assessment when you’re ready to begin.

All My Students Have the White Clickers

Note

If any of your students have the older, blue clickers, this section does not apply to you. Continue to the next section.

  1. The quiz has not yet started! On the next window, you will be prompted to be sure that the project is off (CPS will show how students are responding and you don’t want that displayed to all!)
  2. You should also expand the Options button and check off Enable Power button on pads. This means that when students finish the quiz, they can turn off their clickers rather than wait until the quiz has been ended.
  3. Click Start when you are officially ready to begin.
  4. As students turn on their clickers, you will see the battery indicator next to their name turn green. You will also be able to see how they are responding.
  5. When you are ready to end the quiz, click End.
  6. You will be prompted to confirm. After you confirm that you want to end the quiz/test, it will save the data. When complete, click Close.

Some Students Have the Blue and Some Students Have the White Clickers

Note

If every student in your class has the new, white clickers, this section does not apply to you.

  1. Be sure that the video projector in the classroom is on, as students will need to see the CPS Application displayed from the E-classroom computer on the screen.
  2. Click Start when you are officially ready to begin the quiz.
  3. A CPS - Join window will appear. Students who have activated their clickers in myWPI should follow the instructions from this window to get their clickers ready for the quiz.
  4. Behind the Join window, a ballot-grid style window will appear with a range of numbers. The top row represents the Pad ID each student has been assigned in myWPI and the bottom row indicates what question number the students are on in the quiz.
  5. Students can begin answering the quiz questions by pressing their responses for each question and pressing the Send button on their clickers. To advance forward or backward in the quiz, they will use the < and > buttons on their clickers. They can see what question number they are on in the quiz by looking at the projection screen.
  6. When you are ready to end the quiz, click End.
  7. You will be prompted to confirm. After you confirm that you want to end the quiz/test, it will save the data. When complete, click Close.

Exporting Graded Sessions to myWPI from the CPS Software

  1. After you have ended a CPS quiz and are back in the main CPS application window, select the Reports tab.
  2. Locate the quiz title that you wish to upload and select it. Newer items are towards the top of the list.
  3. Select the Upload button. The CPS software will sync with myWPI.
  4. Log in to myWPI to ensure that the quiz appears in the gradebook.
  5. Students will now be able to see their scores in myWPI.
  6. Note

If you forget to upload the quiz results in to myWPI, the CPS Software will save the report so you can do it the next time you log into that PC and start up the CPS Software.
