Downloading and Uploading Grades with Microsoft Excel (Work Offline)

Why?

Occasionally it may be more convenient to with your Grade Center content offline in another program such as Microsoft Excel. To facilitate this Blackboard has the Work Offline feature which allows you to download your Grade Center in an Excel compatible format which can later be saved and uploaded back to the site.

To Download Grades to Microsoft Excel from myWPI

  1. From the Course Management area in your course site, click on the Grade Center Action Link in the Control Panel.
  2. The Full Grade Center view appears
  3. Click the Work Offline Action Link.
  1. Select Download from the Action Link menu.
  1. Select the data to download.
  2. Select the file delimiter, Comma or Tab.
  3. Select whether to Include Hidden Information in the downloaded data. Hidden information includes columns and students that have been hidden from the view in the downloaded file.
  4. Select the location for the download. Files downloaded to the Content Collection need to
    be saved in a folder in the Content Collection. Click Browse to select the folder.
  5. Click Submit to finish the download.
  6. Click Download.
  7. Save the file in a location on your computer.
  8. Use Microsoft Excel to open the file.

To Upload Grades from Microsoft Excel to myWPI

Caution!

Uploading grades from Microsoft Excel to myWPI only works when you use the Grade Center format provided by myWPI. To upload grades, you must first download the Grade Center to Excel, and then you can add columns in Excel and import grades from this format. Note that column headers and student names must match those in myWPI therefore you should never make changes to these pieces of information.

  1. From the Course Management area in your course site, click on the Grade Center Action Link in the Control Panel.
  2. The Full Grade Center view appears
  3. Click the Work Offline Action Link.
  1. Select Upload from the Action Link menu.
  1. Click Browse to locate the Excel file on your computer.
  2. Select either Comma, Tab, or Auto for the Delimiter type. If you select Auto, myWPI will attempt to automatically detect the type of delimiter used in the file.
  3. Click Submit when you have successfully located the file and are ready to upload. The Upload Grade Confirmation page appears.
  4. Select the column or columns you wish to upload from the file using the check boxes to select the desired columns.
  5. Click Submit to upload the column(s)and save your changes.
