Using Wikis in myWPI

Using a Wiki

All Wikis are found in Course Tools, which is on the sidebar.

Choose a Wiki from the list that appears by clicking on its name.

Note:

The following screenshots show the Wiki feature of Blackboard 9 in Edit Mode. If the indicator on the upper right of your screen shows that Edit Mode is off, your pages may look a little bit different. You can still create and edit Wiki pages while Edit Mode is off.

Getting Started

A new Wiki will require you to create a homepage for the wiki. Use the Visual Text Editor to create a homepage, then click Submit to continue to the Wiki.

Working with Pages

Navigating Pages

The pages in a wiki are listed in the sidebar on the right of the Wiki. The page currently being viewed is grayed out. In the example below, the "Home Wiki Page" is currently being viewed. To view a different page, simply click on the link for that page. Using the drop-down menu to the right of the name

Creating a New Page

To create a new page, click New in the Page section of the wiki column.

When the screen appears for entering a new wiki, enter a title in the Name field and make an entry in the textbox. Note that the text editing options allow you to create tables, enter images, add links to other pages or URLs, attach files, and format your text. Click Submit when you are finished with the page.

Editing a Page

To edit a wiki page, click Edit in the Page section of the wiki column. The screen displays the same as it does when creating a new page. Use the editing tools to make edits and click Save.

Internal Links in a Wiki

  1. If you want to link one Wiki page to another, open up a Wiki for editing.
  2. Click on the Link to Wiki Page button.
  3. A new window will pop up and prompt you to choose a Wiki page and a name for your link. When finished, click on the Submit button..

Commenting on an Page

Click on the Comment button to leave a seperate message on the wiki content. If a comment already exits for an entry, a number appears with the Comments link.

Type your comment in the Comment box and click Add. If you want to remove a comment, click on the delete icon ().

Viewing Page History

To see who has made changes to a page and to view the differences between each version of the page, click on the dropdown menu next to the name of a page and click on History.

The History page appears showing who made a change, when they made it, and which version they edited. Click the Compare Versions button to see the differences between two versions.
