Downloading Student Files from the Assignment Manager - Database Error
If you are getting an error when attempting to Download Student Files from the Assignment Manager, then your assignment name may contain special characters (i.e. #, $, %, etc.) that the database cannot read. Follow these instructions to remove special characters from the assignment and gradebook.
Changing the Name of the Assignment Already Deployed
- Go to the Control Panel > and locate the content area where your Assignment Submission item is located.
- Click Modify next to the Assignment item.
- Remove the special character (in this example, the # symbol) from the Assignment name and click Submit at the bottom of the page.
Note
Spaces, dashes, and underscore characters do not cause problems with Assignment downloads.
- Repeat for each assignment you have.
Changing the Name of the Gradebook Column for a Deployed Assignment
When you add an Assignment to a Content Area, a gradebook column is automatically created for the assignment. Even though you have just fixed the Assignment name, the gradebook column still reflects the old name, which contains special characters.
- Go to Control Panel > Gradebook.
- Click Manage Items.
- Click Modify next to the Assignment Gradebook item.
- Remove any special characters (in this example, the #) from the item name and click Submit at the bottom.
- You should now be able to successfully Batch Download Student Files from the Assignment Manager.
