SharePoint: Discussion Boards for Project Teams
Discussion Boards can facilitate communication that is easy to track and maintain throughout your project. To find out more about managing discussion boards in SharePoint, click on the headings below.
To post a discussion on a SharePoint Discussion Board:
- Navigate to the Discussion Board.
- Click New --> Discussion.

- Type in the Discussion subject and message; click ok. Please note that you can use html formatting for your message.
To reply to a message on a SharePoint Discussion Board:
- Click on the Discussion post title:

- Click the Reply button:

- In Internet Explorer, a WYSIWYG editor will appear. You can either type your reply above the message, below the message, or erase the message and type yours. Click OK.

In Non-Internet Explorer browsers, the original message will appear in html code. You can either type your reply above the message, below the message, or erase the message and type yours. Click OK.

To connect a SharePoint Discussion Board to Microsoft Outlook:
- Be sure that Outlook is the default mail client on your computer.
- Click Actions --> Connect to Outlook.
Note:
In non-IE browsers, this will read "Connect to Client".

- The first time you make this connection, a "SharePoint Lists" folder will be created in your Mail. The specific list you have connected will appear underneath, with the number of unread posts in parentheses next to it.
- To reply to posts from within Outlook, click the Post Reply button.
To create email alerts for Discussion Board postings:
Click Actions --> Alert Me.
To post a discussion on a SharePoint Discussion Board:
- Navigate to the Discussion Board.
- Click New --> Discussion.
- Type in the Discussion subject and message; click ok. Please note that you can use html formatting for your message.

To reply to a message on a SharePoint Discussion Board:
- Click on the Discussion post title:
- Click the Reply button:

- Name of Your Project or Organization
- Short Name (suitable for URL): 6-8 characters
- Description of Project/Group
- Usernames of all group members, separated by semicolons
- Anticipated End Date for site
