Recording Live Presentations using WPI Laptops

Note

These instructions are based on the use of a Library or ATC HP3800 Laptop with a built-in camera.

Directions for Recording a Live Session

The ATC has created a settings profile on this laptop that will allow you to record yourself (or a small group) practicing a presentation or demonstration so that you can analyze it at a later time.  Please use a private space, such as a Tech Suite, so that the laptop microphone will be most effective.

Equipment Needed:

Steps for Recording:

  1. Boot up the laptop and log in using your Windows Username and Password.
  2. Click on the Laptop Camera Capture.wme (Windows Media Encoder) Logo

  4. You will receive the error message below.  Click “Ok”.

  5. Windows Media Encoder will open.  Click the Properties button.
  6. Be sure that the Output tab is selected, then click “Browse”.
  7. Browse for a location that you will be able to access after your recording, such as an external USB drive or your toaster file.

  8. Give your file a name, then click Save.
  9. Click Apply.

  10. Position the Laptop lid so that the camera is at the correct angle.  The Video Preview window will allow this.

  11. When you are ready to begin, click “Start Encoding”.
    Please note:
    Wait 2-3 seconds after hitting Start" before you begin speaking.

  12. When you have finished, click “Stop Encoding”. 

 


Please note:
You can only have one Windows Media Encoder window open at a time.
