Embedding Audio Files within PowerPoint
April 9, 2007
By default, PowerPoint links audio files larger than 100k to the original location on your PC where the file is located. If you post a PowerPoint file to myWPI or email it to a colleague, your audio files generally do not transfer with the PowerPoint. As a result, your viewers are stuck with an error message that PowerPoint cannot find the file. This can be solved by embedding the files in PowerPoint.
To increase the file size for embedding audio files in PowerPoint, follow these instructions:
- From your presentation file, go to Tools > Options.
- From the Options window, select the General tab.
- Increase the file size to accommodate your larger audio file sizes.
- You can now save your presentation and begin inserting audio files as you normally would from the Insert > Sound from file menu.
If you have not yet recorded your audio narration, there is an easier way to embed audio within a PowerPoint so it is transferable. Visit the Collaboratory page on Recording Narration in PowerPoint for instructions how to do this.
