Web Sessions

Using Web Sessions

Web Sessions allow the event presenter to display a web site to participants. The presenter and participants can collaboratively annotate a web page or participants can explore the web site on their own.

Sharing a Web Site

  1. During the iMeeting Event, click on the Web tab in the content window.

  2. Enter the URL of the web page in the empty field towards the top of the tab. Note that you do not have to enter "http://".
  3. Click Go. The web page appears in the whiteboard area of the screen.
  4. Both the presenter and participants should enlarge the whiteboard area by clicking the Enlarge button in the toolbar. This allows everyone to see the entire web page that is being displayed. The whiteboard area can be reduced again after the web session is over.

The screen below shows a web session without the whiteboard area enlarged.

The screen below shows a web session with the whiteboard area enlarged. Note that the entire web page can be seen from left to right.

Note

You cannot see the participant window when you enlarge the whiteboard area, so you are not able to see when participants have raised their hands or entered the speaking queue. You may want to periodically pause and reduce the whiteboard area to check the participant window. You can then enlarge the whiteboard again and proceed with displaying the web page.

  1. While you are displaying a web page, you have the option of freezing it and annotating the page that is displayed, or you can make the page active so participants can navigate from it.

In the On displayed page area of the Web tab, select the appropriate option.

Allow annotations freezes the web page that is being displayed so you can draw on it using the drawing tools. Participants can see your annotations. Participants can also make annotations.

Follow links when clicked makes the web page active, meaning that the links are clickable and participants can navigate the web to other sites independent of each other.

  2. To end the web session, click on the Materials tab or the App Sharing tab in the content area and select other content or an application to share.

Warning

Web sessions open separate instances of the web page on each participants' computer. As long as you select Allow annotations at the beginning of the web session, you and the participants can annotate the first page that appears on the site. As soon as you select Follow links when clicked, you and participants can browse the web site independently. You cannot see what page participants are looking at and they can't see what you are looking at. If you truly want to share and collaborate on a web site, share it through applications sharing instead of using a web session.
