Secure Access
Recent security concerns have prompted the CCC system administrators to implement new policies for computer usage and access. The use of TELNET to connect to CCC systems is being discontinued in favor of the SSH protocol which is more secure. Also, the use of FTP to access user files will be discontinued in favor of SCP, a secure method of file transfer.
SSH
SSH (Secure SHell) is a program to log into another computer over a network, to execute commands in a remote machine, and to move files from one machine to another. It provides strong authentication and secure communications over insecure channels. It is intended as a replacement for telnet, rlogin, rsh, and rcp.
WPI supports TeraTerm for connection to the CCC systems via SSH.
SCP
SCP is a secure replacement for the more common FTP (File Transfer Protocol) Application, used for transferring files to or from a remote host. It uses SSH as the low-level communications protocol and therefore benefits from the security present in SSH.
WPI supports WinSCP for connections to CCC systems via SCP.
