Research
Dr. Overström, a developmental biologist, investigates cellular and molecular processes that direct normal and abnormal development of mammalian eggs, embryos and embryo-derived stem cells. Research in his laboratory focuses on both fundamental studies and applied studies using rodent and domestic animal models. Current research is directed at understanding the mechanisms of cell cycle synchronicity and interactions between oocyte meiotic spindle-associated factors and the cytoplasm during M-phase exit and early embryo development. The role(s) of activation-induced interactions in establishing developmental competence and normal gene expression patterns in cloned embryos are also under study.
