Bioprocess Technology Laboratory

The WPI Bioprocess Technology Laboratory (Bioprocess Center) is a 2,000-square foot facility located on the WPI campus in Worcester, Massachusetts (USA). It is operated through the Department of Biology and Biotechnology. The Center is divided into two main areas. The first is a teaching laboratory predominantly used for graduate and undergraduate course work. The remainder of the facility is a restricted access area used for contract research and development. This area houses a 55-liter working volume New Brunswick Scientific IF-75 computer controlled fermenter as well as equipment for process chilling and cell disruption.

The Bioprocess Center is self-sufficient and independent from other research laboratories with respect to the generation of high purity air, water and steam. The laboratory's water capacity is 500 gallons of USP grade water, which is tested for microbial contamination (CFU's) on a biweekly basis.
