Contract Research and Development Experience
The WPI Bioprocess Technology Laboratory has been actively performing contract research and development for the biotechnology industry since 1991. Projects range from fermentation and purification process development for various recombinant expression systems to optimization of natural products from a variety of microbial and fungal species. - Pichia pastoris (production and purification of recombinant proteins)
Over 10 years of experience in high cell density Pichia fermentations utilizing state-of- the-art bench and pilot scale fermenters ranging from 1 - 50 L
Purification development including EBC for initial product recovery
- Escherichia coli (fed-batch and process development including DSP)
Fed-batch optimization, fermentation/medium development (yield increases by as much as 100-fold over batch fermentations have been achieved).
- Natural products from a range of organisms including Actinomycetes and Fungi
Fermentation of a marine actinomycete for production of a cyclic peptide. (increased overall yield 30-fold through fed-batch, medium development and manipulation of environmental parameters).
