Projects & Opportunities
Many students complete their major qualifying project (MQP) in the area of biomaterials each year. Most of this research and design work is done in the BME and ME departments, however the techniques needed for analysis are often found in other areas. Below is a list of recent projects categorized by general areas of biomaterials research with links to the advisors for these projects.
Polymeric biomaterials
- Polymer coated stents (Shivkumar)
- Drug splitting and release of acetaminophen (Shivkumar)
- Characterization of emulsions as a potential drug delivery system (Camesano)
- Polycationic polymers for DNA encapsulation and delivery (Camesano)
- Drug delivery using modified dextran polymers in microemulsions (Camesano)
- Modified polymers in a drug delivery system (Camesano)
Biologic-based materials
- Rational design of biomimetic basal lamina analogs (Pins)
- Design and characterization of self-asembled collagen microthreads (Pins)
- Evaluation of Biodegradation of Collagen Sponges Using MRI (Pins, Sotak )
- Electrospinning of nano-layered biopolymer structures (Shivkumar)
