Teaching Assistants
Teaching assistantships are awarded to graduate students on a competitive basis. They include tuition support for a maximum of 10 credit hours per semester and a monthly stipend of more than $1,774 for nine months, for the current academic year. Teaching Assistants (TAs) are generally assigned duties that support faculty in their teaching responsibilities. Typical duties of TAs include (but are not limited to) grading of undergraduate and graduate student course paperwork, supervision of undergraduate science and engineering laboratory course sections, as well as individual and small-group conference sections associated with faculty lecture courses. TAs are required to be on campus and available for their assignments 10 days before undergraduate classes begin in the fall, and every day the university is open during the academic year, until the spring graduation (see the Academic Calendar). TAs are expected to work 20 hours per week on their assigned duties. Some departments have more stringent requirements. TA assignments are made by the academic department and, with rare exception, are awarded starting with the fall semester. Consult the graduate coordinator in the academic department for specific information.

Application for TA Position
Teaching assistantships are awarded to students on a competitive basis. A TA position includes a stipend (currently $1,511 per month for 9 months) and full tuition support for a 9 month academic year. TAs are generally assigned duties to support faculty in their teaching responsibilities. TAs are expected to work 20 hours per week, and duties may include grading; holding office hours and running help sessions; and preparation and supervision of laboratory sections.
A TA position is awarded on a yearly basis, and is typically renewed at the end of the first year. The TA position requires a student to complete an M.S. degree with a 6 credit thesis or a Ph.D. degree. Decisions regarding new TA positions are made around April. Decisions are based on the department needs and individual qualifications. You must, of course, be accepted to the graduate program.
This form is not an application to the graduate program - it is used internally by the CEE Department for TA applications only. You also must apply for admission to the graduate program.
