Student Activities
Concrete Canoe
The Concrete Canoe Competition provides students with a practical application of the engineering principles they learn in the classroom, along with important team and project management skills they'll need in their careers. The event will challenge the knowledge, creativity and stamina of students, while showcasing the versatility and durability of concrete as a building material.
Steel Bridge Competition
Regional competitions are held in conjunction with ASCE regional conferences. Winners and first runners-up from most regions are invited to compete at the national level. However, invitations are extended only to the winner from a region with two, three or four participating universities, and to the top three teams from a region with eleven or more participating universities. A university may enter more than one bridge in regional competition but only the best one may qualify for national competition. Each university entering a steel bridge in any regional competition receives $175 from AISC. The host university receives $500 from AISC to assist with expenses incurred in organizing the Regional Student Steel Bridge Competition. In addition, AISC provides plaques for all the competitions.
