The full application includes the application form, official transcript(s), a personal statement, and two letters of recommendation. Please review the eligibility requirements before applying. Application materials must be received by March 1, 2007.

Application Deadlines

The following dates are for the 2007 Summer REU program in Environmental Engineering and Transportation Engineering at WPI. Additional information will be provided to participants after acceptance into the program.

March 1, 2007:

Deadline for receipt of application materials for full consideration. Applications received after March 1, 2007 will only be considered if the program has space available for additional participants.

Mid to late March, 2007:

Offers made to 8 undergraduate researchers. Students will be expected to decide on the acceptance of the offer within one week.

End of April, 2007:

Establishment of a REU e-mail list to foster communication among the participants.

June 2, 2007:

Arrival of participants at WPI.

Week of July 23, 2007:

Final student presentations and final project report due.

July 28, 2007:

Final day of summer program.

Eligibility

Students pursuing degrees in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and related engineering fields (for example, Chemical Engineering for the environmental projects) are encouraged to apply. Students in general engineering and engineering technology programs are also eligible. Students are expected to have completed their junior year by the summer of 2007, although sophomores with advanced standing will also be considered.

We are particularly interested in providing opportunities for women and underrepresented minorities in civil and environmental engineering research.

In accordance with National Science Foundation requirements, all participants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
