WPI Requirements
To obtain a Civil Engineering Degree at WPI, you must meet certain minimum requirements. These requirements are:
(See chart below for ABET acredited degree requirements in Civil Engineering)
| Minimum Units to Graduate 15 Units | |
|---|---|
| Humanities Sufficiency | 2 unit |
| Social Science | 2/3 unit |
| Qualifying Projects | 2 unit |
| Subtotal | 4 2/3 unit |
| Math Science & Engineering | 10 1/3 unit |
| Physical Education | 1/3 unit additional |
The normal student activity load of one unit per term becomes 16 units for a four year residency. Physical education and ROTC requirements are in addition to this 16 unit regular program. However, the minimum number of units needed to graduate from WPI is 15. That means that you can obtain NR grades in as many as three courses and still graduate. Of course, simply taking courses until they add up to 15 units does not necessarily mean that you will receive a Civil Engineering Degree.
A flow-chart that details basic course selections for a Civil Engineering Degree is shown below: You may download this chart.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Program Chart
Students earning an ABET Accredited degree in civil engineering must complete a minimum of 15 units of study arranged in accordance with the distribution requirements. This chart summarizes course recommendations - see your advisor to develop your program schedule.

NOTES
Basic math and science courses should be completed early in the curriculum, prior to taking many CE courses. Students may select from other math and science courses in addition to those listed here.
* Mathematics requirements include differential and integral calculus, differential equations, and probability and statistics
(**) Science: Must include both chemistry and physics with a minimum of two courses in either.
