Problems

  1. An atom emits a photon (bundle) of light having wavelength 615 nm. What is the frequency of the light? What is the energy of the photon?
  2. The Rydberg formula relating the wavelength of light emitted by the hydrogen atom to the integer labels for the hydrogen energy levels is

    1/l = RH(1/n12 - 1/n22)

Use the Rydberg equation to calculate the wavelength of light emitted when the electron in the hydrogen atom moves from the level with n = 4 to the level with n = 3. RH has the value, 1.096 x 107 m-1.
