Quantitative Determination of Solubility--Procedure 2

The following procedure will enable you to determine the solubility of your amino acid in water.

• Weigh about 0.2 g of your amino acid on a tared piece of double-creased weighing paper.
• Measure 1.00 mL of water into a 1-dram vial.
• Transfer a portion of the weighed amino acid to the vial, and stir the mixture until the amino acid dissolves completely.
• Continue adding small portions of amino acid and stirring until the most recently added portion fails to completely dissolve.
• Weigh the weighing paper plus remaining amino acid.
• Calculate the solubility of your amino acid.
