Appendix III: Possible Grading Supplements

This course is intended for those who are interested in learning something about the new Globe Theatre. As such, it really does not require a written grade. However, since grades are required in most settings in which such a course would be offered, I have included two possible resources for evaluating students.

The first resource is a list of possible essay topics. While essays are not extremely practical for such a short introductory level course, they do require active thought and additional research on the part of the student.

The second resource, a set of quizzes, is much more practical, but does not necessarily require anything more of the student than memorization of the facts presented during class. I have attempted to focus the quizzes on the most important aspects of each lesson, but this still does not negate that fact.

Possible Essay Topics:

• What enabled Sam Wanamaker to succeed in creating a new Globe where so many others had failed?
• Create a detailed argument for the construction of a new Globe theatre
• Create a detailed argument against the construction of a new Globe theatre
• Write a description of the experience of attending a play at the Original Globe Theatre
• Explain the conflict between the Elizabethan theatre and the Puritans
