About This Site

This site was created by three undergraduate students at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester Massachusetts. This web site is designed to be a resource for anyone working in a theatre, or participating in theatre activities. This web site is intended to teach you how do to things safely in the theatre, and inform you of some of the rules and codes regarding theatre safety.

In addition to this site, we updated our theatre so that it would follow all safety codes. We did this by cleaning our scene shop, disposing of toxic paint and chemicals, getting fire extinguishers replaced, and updating first aid kits.

To Use This Site

The beginning of the manual is the Maine Page (Yes, we spelled Maine like the state, but we think its funny). At this page, you will see many different positions that one has in the theatre. Pick which one best describes you, to see the safety lessons that are relative to your position. Many of the lessons over lap, but some are specific for specific positions.

There are three buttons frequently used:

Home will always bring you to the Maine page.

Forward will always bring you forward to the next lesson in your specified position.

Backward will do the opposite.

General Safety The tittle of each job is also a link to that page.

So please have fun with our web site. Hopefully it will teach you something. If you have any questions or comments about it feel free to e-mail Megellen@wpi.edu
