German Track Taking German courses? Planning a German language experience at Konstanz or an exchange program to Munich? Then you should consider an International Studies minor with an "German Track."
WPI's International Studies minor extends students’ global horizons, enhances disciplinary majors, and expands career opportunities in the international arena. The International Studies requirements integrate courses, projects, and overseas experiences. Since the background and goals of each student are different, these requirements are flexible. An Interactive Project at a Global Project Center counts as one unit of the three units required by the minor. One unit of German language courses from your sufficiency may count towards the minor’s international electives. All that remains is one unit (three courses) in the International Studies "core." The core requires one history course, one cross-cultural course, and HU 4411, Senior Seminar in International Studies. One unit of the minor may not double-count with other degree requirements.
Here are several examples of an German track. These are merely examples and the courses you choose could be different.
Interactive Project Option:
Exchange Program Option:
1 unit International Core
HU 4411 Senior Seminar in International Studies HI 1341 Introduction to Global History
HU 3411 Pro-seminar in Global Perspectives
1 unit Humanities and Arts or Social Science courses
1 unit Interactive Project or Humanities and Arts Requirement at Konstanz
Students may receive an International Studies minor through an exchange program to Germany. For example:
1 unit International Core
HI 1322 Introduction to European Cultural History
SOC 1202 Sociological Concepts and Comparative Analysis
HU 4411 Senior Seminar in International Studies
2 units of German language courses taken for the Humanities and Arts Requirement
Exchange program at Konstanz or Munich
Since the background and goals of each student are different, these requirements are flexible. In essence, the German Track is a sample program that demonstrates how students with experience in Germany may shape the minor to meet their goals.
