E-Buildings @ City Lab
In 2004-2005, we completed the mapping of all campus
buildings at WPI onto GIS layers. Three-dimensional models of several academic
buildings were also completed. The
students developed a system that will allow the management of the principal
safety apparatus in each buildings, including fire extinguishers, emergency
lights and exit signs. The team also
prototyped a system for the management of satellite collection areas for
hazardous waste. In 2005-2006, the
project will extend to other academic buildings and will include environmental
aspects, such as the management of back-flow preventers,
as well as the issue of energy efficiency in the buildings, based on Oxford
University’s “40% House”
publication.
