The WCPC has engaged in dozens of community based research projects around Worcester. The project center engages the community in two ways, through the outreach and scholarship of its affiliated faculty and through the service learning oriented projects completed by WPI students. Envisioning Worcester's Future

In September 2002, in collaboration with local partners and partners from the UK the WCPC sponsored a one day workshop on planning for sustainability in Worcester. The workshop was attended by over 100 people. Envisioning Worcester's Future


Planning for a Sustainable Future

In 2003, the WCPC partnered with the city of Worcester to conduct a spatial analysis of the city. The idea was to consider the relative relationships between various current and future land uses, such as housing, open space and economic development.


Brownfield's Workshop

On September 30th, 2006, the Worcester Community Project Center in collaboration with the Center for Public Environmental Oversight organized a regional workshop on brownfields cleanup and redevelopment. The WPI workshop was attended by 60 participants from the New England region, and included planners, staff from community development corporations, federal and state regulators, neighborhood associations, environmental justice activists, and public health officials. The recommendations from the workshop will be discussed and refined at the EPA sponsored National Environmental Justice/Community Caucus in Boston.
