Interdisciplinary Majors
The IGSD provides the support structure for students who construct individually-designed (ID) majors which cannot readily be accommodated in traditional academic departments. ID majors may be defined in any area of study where WPI's academic strengths can support a program of study, and in which career goals exist. Many combinations of technical and non-technical study are possible.
Students who wish to pursue an individually-designed major program should first discuss their ideas with their academic advisor. The student should then consult with Professor Richard Vaz in the IGSD office, who will determine, with the assistance of other members of the faculty, if the proposed program is feasible, and, if it is, arrange for its evaluation. For more information on ID majors, please consult the undergraduate catalog.
