Cash Prizes!
What Would I Say?
What would you say about yourself in a brief social or business encounter? How would you "persuade" students to join your project team or "convince" a potential advisor of your project's merit? Got a great business idea? How would you effectively pitch the idea to potential management partners or investors?
We've designed a series of workshops to cover the basics of creating an Elevator Pitch for three different pitch categories. Consider attending the following two workshops and then enter WPI's Annual Elevator Pitch Competition!
It's easy as 1-2-3!
- Optional: Attend the Elevator Pitch Workshop on February 7, 2008. This workshop will help you understand the basics of what an elevator pitch is and why they are so important throughout your life. Begin writing and refining your pitch. (See the categories of Elevator Pitches below.) Show up at the Campus Center Morgan Room from 4-6 PM to get started.
- Optional: Attend the Mentored Pitch Practice Workshop on February 13, 2008. This workshop will help you refine and deliver your practice pitch within the 60-second time frame allowed during the competition. Be in the Campus Center Mid-Century Room between 4:00-6:00 PM for a practice pitch and critique.
- Register to enter the February 21, 2008 Elevator Pitch Competition and show up in the Campus Center Taylor Room at your assigned time between 6:00 - 7:30 PM ready to pitch for cash. Note: You are welcome to attend all pitches except business idea pitches, which may be confidential.
Elevator Pitch Categories:
- Personal Pitch - Create a concise personal "networking" pitch - great for use in social or business encounter situations.
- Project-based Pitch - Create an effective and persuasive message to "persuade" students to join your project team or "convince" a potential advisor of your project's merit.
- Business Idea - Create a pitch to "sell" your business idea to investors and potential management team partners.
Using separate registration forms, you may enter as many categories as you wish, but you are eligible to win a cash prize in only one category. However, you may receive an award certificate in lieu of a cash prize in more than one category.
First Place Prize - $250.
Second Place Prize - $100.
Third Place Prize - $50.
