Students attend MathFest 2001
MathFest 2001, the annual meeting of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) took place in Madison, Wisconsin August 1-4. WPI was represented by three sudents: Yakov Kronrod (MA/CS '02), Jonathan Moussa (MA/PH '01) and Irma Servatius (EE '04). All three presented papers, Yakov and Jonathan as members of Pi Mu Epsilon (PME), the National Mathematics Honor Society, and Irma as an MAA member. The Conference took place in the Madison Convention Center, a building on the shore of Monona Lake designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Jonathan received a student research award from the Council on Undergraduate Research for his paper entitled "New Collision Detection Algorithms." Yakov received a best-paper award from PME for his contribution entitled "Pattern Formation," incorporating joint work with Megan Lally (MA/CS '02).
