Math Sciences careers rank highly

The new Jobs Rated Almanac [L. Krantz, St. Martin's Press, New York, 1999] gives high ratings to careers in the mathematical sciences. Out of 250 jobs rated, actuary, mathematician, and statistician came in second, fifth, and 32nd in the overall rankings, which took into account six core job criteria: work environment, income, outlook, physical demands, security, and stress. In income, actuary came out in 24th place, ahead of all engineering professions. Mathematician was in 42nd place, ahead of all engineering professions except petroleum and nuclear engineering.
