John D. McPhee currently serves as a cadet instructor in the Department of
Military Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) where he is directly
involved in the training, development, counseling, and evaluation of the Army
ROTC cadets on a day to day basis. John holds the rank of Sergeant First Class
in the United States Army, and is branched Infantry.
During his sixteen years of service, SFC McPhee has attended numerous military schools which include the following: Airborne School, Air Assault School, Pathfinder School, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Tactics Certification Course, Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Warfare (NBC) School, Drill Sergeant School, Equal Opportunity (EO) School, Small Group Instructor Course, Instructor Course, Infantry Weapons Specialist Course, and Air Load Planner Course.
SFC McPhee has also had assignments in various parts of the world during his military career. These assignments include a year stay (1985-86) in the Echo Company 3/19th Infantry at Fort Stewart, Georgia as a Tube-launched Optically-tracked Wire-guided Missile (TOW) Vehicle Driver/Gunner, a year stay (1986-87) in the Echo Company 5/20th Infantry at Camp Casey, Korea as a Squad Leader of an anti-tank squad, a five year stay (1987-92) in the Echo Company 2/18th Infantry at Fort Benning, Georgia as a Section Sergeant of an anti-tank section, a year stay (1992-93) in the Delta Company 1/506th Infantry at Camp Greaves, Korea, as a Section Sergeant of an anti-tank section, a two year stay (1993-95) at the Noncommissioned Officer's (NCO) Academy in Fort Benning, as a Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course (BNCOC) Instructor for future Staff Sergeants, another two year stay (1995-97) in the Delta 1/38th Infantry at Fort Benning, as a Drill Sergeant, and finally a three year stay (1997-2001) in the Headquarters Command (HHC) 1/27th Infantry at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as a Platoon Sergeant of an anti-tank platoon.
