Historic Sites

Saratoga National Historical Park - This 2800 acre national park commemorates American victories over the British on September 19 and October 7, 1777. There is a 9.5 mile battlefield tour road with 10 historic stops and picnic areas, and a visitor center housing a museum, gift shop, and theater that shows an orientation film every half hour. The 4.2 mile Wilkinson Trail winds through the site for the use of hikers and cross country skiers. The visitor center is open year-round, the tour road April to December with a small admission charge. (518) 664-9821

Historic Sites not Related to the Battle -

Grant Cottage State Historic Site - Ulysess S. Grant spent his final days here completing his memoirs shortly before his death in 1885. The site was first opened to visitors in 1890, and has been preserved the way Grant left it ever since. The cottage is open Memorial Day till Labor day. (518) 587-8277
Saratoga Spa State Park - This beautiful State Park features mineral water baths in restored bath houses, natural mineral springs, and more geysers than anywhere east of the Mississippi, interspersed with lush pine forests and classical architecture designated as National Historic Landmarks. There are picnic pavilions, two swimming pools, two golf courses, the luxurious Gideon Putnam Hotel and Convention Center, three restaurants, and much, much more. Open year-round. (518)584-2535

Museums

Brookside Saratoga County History Center - Brookside features exhibits and displays about Saratoga County history, located in a two hundred year old former resort hotel. Included are historic documents, photos and artifacts, along with interactive computer presentations. Open year-round. (518) 885-4000
Museums of the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs - Located at the Canfield Casino in Congress Park are the Historical Museum which features rotating exhibits concerning Saratoga Springs; the Walworth Museum which depicts interior rooms of a Saratoga Springs mansion, and the Ann Grey Gallery of contemporary regional art. Museums not Related to the Battle -

National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame - The National Museum of Racing features thoroughbred horse racing trophies, art and memorabilia. The Hall of Fame features exhibits about winning horses and jockeys, many of which staked their claim to fame right here in Saratoga. There is also a gift shop, and tours are available. Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame - Harness racing's own rich history is depicted at the Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame, located on the grounds of Saratoga Raceway. It contains antique sulkies, exhibits, artwork, memorabilia, a gift shop and a library. Open May - November. (518) 587-4210
National Museum of Dance - America's only museum of dance is located in the Washington Bath Pavilion, a National Historic Landmark. It features many exhibits, a Hall of Fame, gift shop, cafe, and the Lewis A. Sawyer School for the Performing Arts. Open Memorial day to Labor Day. (518) 584-2225
The Children's Museum at Saratoga - The Children's Museum features The Kid's Comedy Club, a firehouse, train, and many interactive exhibits for children aged 2-12. Open weekends, year-round. (518)584-5540
National Bottle Museum - Featuring exhibits of antique bottles and glass making techniques. Videos are provided which depict the history of the old time glass blowing and bottle manufacturing industry. Open year-round. (518) 885-7589
