Center for Economic & Policy Dynamics
In 2004, faculty in the Department of Social Science and Policy Studies, led by Professor Michael Radzicki, formed the Center for Economic and Policy Dynamics. The CEPD will serve as a liaison between WPI and the public in matters pertaining to economics and public policy, including science and technology policy.
As envisioned, the CEPD engages in the following sorts of activities:
- Maintaining an appealing Web site devoted to economic and policy dynamics. The site would contain things such as interesting System Dynamics models, working papers, data, and press briefings.
- Hosting or co-hosting conferences related to economic and policy dynamics. Examples include the Post Keynesian summer school and conference, the ICAPE conference, and Pugwash meetings.
- Hosting an annual summer school for members of the media and civil servants in economic and policy dynamics (utilizing System Dynamics) aimed at correcting a lot of the economic misinformation that is ubiquitous in society.
- Hosting an annual summer school for city and town officials to help them gain additional insights into the dynamics of urban systems. The creation of a compelling System Dynamics game is planned for this activity.
- Engaging in interesting and relevant research projects that would add significantly to human knowledge and public discourse, and attract sponsors. Projects centered on the "future of the Euro" and on a "heterodox economics model of the US economy" are currently in the works.
