This is a state of the art factory with the latest in automation equipment. Over a billion razor products are made there each year.
Projects
Gillette has been providing very interesting MQP topics for the past 7 years. These tend to be machine design type problems involving mechanism analysis and design, materials considerations, stress and deflection analysis, and dynamic modeling. Particular projects topic vary from year to year and are typically defined in August of the year to be executed. Students interested in these projects should have taken, at a minimum, ES3323 CAD, ME3310 Kinematics, ME3320 Design of Machine Elements prior to going to this project center.
This MQP site is open to mechanical engineering students with the above background and provides an opportunity for WPI students to satisfy the MQP requirement during one term of intensive and focused team project work in a professional technical environment. These projects will run in B-term with students spending most every weekday at Gillette in Boston. Some activity on the WPI campus may also be necessary. It is commutable by rail from Worcester and monthly passes will be provided at no cost to the students. A 1/6 credit PQP is required in A term to prepare for the intensive activity during the 7 weeks on site.
Admission to the WPI Gillette MQP Program is based on the following criteria: academic standing and performance, essay response, evidence of maturity and independence, student qualifications relevant to the projects offered, and the results of an interview.
