LOCATION
Newsweek has dubbed London “the coolest city on the planet.” It is home to some of the world’s most vibrant theatre and music, outstanding museums, and ambitious architecture. London was once the center of an empire, and today it is the political, economic and media hub of the British Isles, with an influence that continues to radiate well beyond its borders. A designated long weekend makes possible travel to Scotland, Wales, or Ireland and students can also plan shorter trips to places such as Oxford or Canterbury.
PROJECTS
At the London Project Centre, many projects deal directly with climate change and sustainable development in the urban environment. Student teams provide practical recommendations to local governments on improving recycling, reducing electricity use, and increasing reliance on renewable energy, among other strategies for fulfilling ambitious commitments to reduced carbon emissions. An equally large share of project activity supports education and outreach activities at such famous museums as the Tower of London, the Dickens Museum, and the Museum of Science. Most London Centre projects challenge students with important problems that make a real difference to the project sponsors and the citizens with whom they work.
