Library 2009-2010 Renovation
Contents
Project
The construction process may cause some disruption due to noise and short interruptions of service as offices are being moved.
Gordon Library is undergoing the first phase of a renovation during the next few months. When the project is complete, the Technology for Teaching and Learning (TTL) group of the ATC and CCC Technology Help Desk group will join staff already in the library to create an Information Commons that will consolidate a number of student, faculty, and staff services. A phased approach will be taken for the construction and relocation of services and offices.
Goals
The goals of the project are to:
- Create engaging and flexible spaces within the Information Commons
- Dynamically link multimedia and technology to research and teaching
- Cultivate innovation by changing the social and technical climate in the facility
Changes
- The TTL and Help Desk staffs will be located on the second (entry level) floor to the right of the lobby.
- Expanded group collaboration space with adjacent technology and research support services will be created on the same level taking space vacated by the Collections Management Offices.
- The Archives and Special Collections department will relocate to the ground floor as will the Digital Reformatting Center and the Preservation Department. The Gladwin Gallery will also move to the ground floor.
- Library Administration, Systems, and Collection Management offices will move to the third floor in the space vacated by the Archives and Special Collections.
- Computers and the configuration of academic software currently in the Movie Lab and Anderson Labs will be relocated to different areas of the library.
