Anderson Lab A, B, GL3030, and GL206 Use Policy
Anderson Instruction Labs are located on the First Floor of the Gordon Library. These labs are named for Albert G. Anderson, former library director, due to his generous gift to WPI.
Gordon Library Conference Room 206 is located on the main entrance level beyond the Information Desk of the library.
Gordon Conference Room 303 is located on the third floor of the library next to Tech Suites 1 & 2.
Location
To get to labs A and B, enter the library, go downstairs one floor, take a left and walk down the aisle to the PC Room. Walking straight into the room, enter Anderson Instruction Lab A by using the door at left, for Lab B enter the door on the right.
Facilities and Equipment
Anderson Instruction Lab A contains 16 PCs and seating for 32 and includes an instructor PC, projection system, DVD/VCR, whiteboard, and chalkboards. Gordon Library Conference Room 206 contains 1 PC and seating for 8 and includes a plasma TV and whiteboard. The room could accommodate additional seating but chairs would need to be relocated from other parts of the library. Computers in the conference room run Windows Vista, Office 2007, and classroom software.
Gordon Library Conference Room 303 contains no technology but has a large conference room table and seating for 25.
Scheduling for Faculty/Staff of WPI
The primary use of Anderson Instruction Lab A is library instruction. However, faculty and staff may reserve the Lab provided that no library instruction is scheduled for that time. Information Desk staff will check the Calendar - Library Training Room schedule for your name/reservation time before lending the key. Reservations may be made within one week of the time/date requested, but not before by contacting Christine Drew x6163, or by Outlook Calendar request by inviting "Calendar - Library Anderson Lab A." A WPI ID card is required to check out the key to the lab.
The primary use of Anderson Instruction Lab B is WPI staff training. However, faculty and staff may reserve the Lab provided that no training is scheduled for that time. Information Desk staff may check the Calendar - Library Anderson Lab B schedule for your name/reservation time before lending the key. For staff and faculty, reservations may be made within one week of the time/date requested, but not before by contacting Deb Dexter x5197 or by Outlook Calendar request by inviting "Calendar - Library Anderson Lab B." A WPI ID card is required to check out the key to the lab.
The primary use of Gordon Library Conference Room 206 is for IT staff meetings during the day. However, faculty, staff and students may reserve GL206 provided that there is no prior meeting scheduled. Information Desk staff may check the Calendar - Library Staff Conference Room 206 schedule for your name/reservation time before lending the key. For students, faculty and staff, reservations may only be made within one week of the time/date requested. Questions may be directed to Christine Drew x6163 or by Outlook Calendar request by inviting "Calendar - Library Staff Conference Room 206." A WPI ID card is required to check out the key to the room.
The primary use of Gordon Conference Room 303 is for Information Technology Division meetings and library use. However, faculty and staff may reserve the room provided that no meeting is scheduled for that time. Information Desk staff will check the calendar schedule for your name/reservation time before lending the key. Reservations may be made within one week of the time/date requested, but not before by contacting Debbie Bockus x5410, or by Outlook Calendar request by inviting "Calendar - Library Gordon Conference Room 303." A WPI ID card is required to check out the key to the room.
Scheduling for Students of WPI
Intended Use: The labs, GL303 and GL206 are intended for use by groups of at least 3 or more, for presentation practice, and training - not as a private study space. Activity of an academic nature will always take precedence over activity deemed recreational. Student groups or project teams (groups of 3 or more) may schedule the labs, GL303 or GL206 during the following times:
- Weekdays 6pm until 1 hour before closing
- Saturdays 9am - until 1 hour before closing
- Sundays noon- until 1 hour before closing
- For use Monday-Friday 8am-6pm you may request in-person, by phone (x5410) or Outlook within 36 hours of intended use. If you request via the MS Outlook calendar for these times prior to 36 hours, most likely the request will be declined.
Students who wish to use these rooms will be asked to complete an Equipment Agreement Form
each academic year. Students may also request to use the room using the MS Outlook calendar and inviting one of the following if the time requested in not already busy for evening/weekend hours only:
- Calendar - Library Anderson Lab A (larger room w/16 PCs)
- Calendar - Library Anderson Lab B (smaller room with 14/PCs)
- Calendar - Library Staff Conference Room 206 (smaller room with 1 PC, plasma TV and seating for 8)
- Calendar - Library Gordon Conference Room 303 (largest room with no technology but seating for 25+)
A key must be checked out at the Information Desk. A WPI ID card is required to check out the key to the room. Reservations are limited to two-hour time slots.
Scheduling Guidelines
- For Lab A - library instruction requests have first priority.
- For Lab B - campus training requests have first priority.
- For GL206 - IT meeting requests have first priority.
- For GL303 - IT meeting requests have first priority.
- Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis;
- Within 10 days of intended meeting for students (weekdays from 6 pm until 30 minutes before library closes and weekends from opening until 30 minutes before library closes) or only within 36 hours for weekday 8am-6pm requests.
- Within 7 days of meeting for faculty/staff requests during weekday business hours.
- Use of these rooms are also limited to the Library's operating hours (consult Hours posted at main entrance or online) with specific availability listed above. To allow Library staff sufficient time to secure the building, this room will close 30 minutes before the rest of the building.
- Reservations are for short-term use only; term-long courses, reoccuring requests, or regularly scheduled courses will not be scheduled in these rooms. Contact Chuck Kornick for classroom scheduling.
- Scheduling for Lab A during weekday 8am-6pm hours are often limited to library-related use during the first three weeks of a term, the busiest times for library instruction.
- If request via Outlook, an an auto-reply email is sent to the requester confirming the reservation. For use Monday-Friday 8am-6pm you may request in-person, by phone (x5410) or Outlook within 36 hours of intended use. If you request via the MS Outlook calendar for these times prior to 36 hours, most likely the request will be declined.
- Cancellations should be made as soon as possible so that others may use the Labs.
Labs, GL303, and GL206 Use Guidelines
General
- The labs, GL303 and GL206 must be locked at all times, especially be certain the lab is locked as you leave room.
- The labs are monitored by security cameras.
- No food or drink is allowed in Anderson Labs or GL206.
Scheduling & Accessing the Rooms
- The responsible party should ask Information Desk staff for the key at the pre-scheduled time and a WPI ID is required for 2 hour checkout. Failure to return the key after 2 hours results in a fine of $.25 per minute or $15 per hour.
- The room key may be picked up 10 minutes prior to reserved time if not in use. If the key has not been charged out to the patron within 15 minutes of the scheduled hour, the reservation will be deleted and other groups will be allowed to use the space. A $50 replacement cost will be charged for a lost key as well as the cost of a replacement lock.
- The group(s) that the room is charged out to will be financially responsible for any damage to the room or equipment. Replacement fees will be charged for any missing supplies.
- All responsible parties are encouraged to visit for a short training session on the equipment prior to use (contact Christine x6163 or cdrew@wpi.edu or Debra Dexter x5197 or debra@wpi.edu).
- The person scheduling the room is responsible for any equipment in the room during the session. A staff member may not be available to help you. For assistance operating the multimedia, please contact the Academic Technology Center at x5220. On weekends, assistance with the technology in the room may not be available. In Labs A or B, refer to instruction card attached to podium.
Software/Hardware Available & Policies Regarding Installation for Labs A & B
- Multimedia includes: Inputs and VGA cable to connect laptops to projection system.
- No software should be loaded onto the computers. If software is needed for training, please inform Christine Drew or Debra Dexter at the time of scheduling to oversee installation and removal. In this case, advanced notice of at least 7 days is recommended.
- Any files saved to the computers will be deleted when they are logged off.
- All computers are to be logged off, the projector turned off and the screen stowed. All computers are to be left turned on.
- Problems with Equipment? Notify staff at the Information Desk immediately.
Violators of any of these procedures may not be given permission to schedule the room again.
