Purpose
The Tech Suite (formerly called IT Lab), a small group collaboration lab, is designed to support the various ways in which today's faculty, staff and students convey ideas and exchange information with one another. These facilities are shaping group interactions and the ability to communicate media-rich information in the digital world. These work areas are available by reservation request to all WPI faculty, staff, and students.
Location
As of late August 2006, we've added more spaces due to popular demand.
- Third Floor: 1 and 2 are adjacent to the Gordon Conference Room 303.
- 2nd Floor entrance level: 3 and 4
- First Floor: 5 and 6 are located to the left of the Oversize book collection and 7 is adjacent to the PC Lab.
Equipment
Each work area can accommodate up to 6 people and comes equipped with the following:
- 50" plasma display
- Dedicated networked PC
- VHS VCR
- DVD player
- Four network ports in the pop-up receptacles as well as wireless coverage for the entire room
- Ability to connect two additional laptops to the display system using the ports located in the pop-up receptacles on the desk
- Ability to web conference via Interwise, check out additional kit with webcam & microphone from Information Desk

- To report technical problems, please contact the Academic Technology Center (ATC) at x5220. Please do not contact the Library to report any technical problems. (See ATC Operating Hours)
Policies
- Students who wish to use library equipment will be asked to complete an Equipment Agreement Form
each academic year. - Overdue Fines: 25 cents per minute or $15.00 per hour
- Only WPI faculty, staff and students may schedule and use the facilities available in this room.
- The work areas are intended for use by groups of 2 or more - not as private study spaces.
- Activity of an academic nature will always take precedence over activity deemed recreational.
- Use of the work areas is available during the Library's normal business hours (please consult the Library's Hours of Operations posted at the main entrance or on the Library web site). To allow Library staff sufficient time to secure the building, this room will close 30 minutes before the rest of the building.
- The door must remain closed and the room locked when not in use.
- Food and drink are not allowed in the room at any time.
- The lab kit may be picked up 10 minutes prior to reserved time if not in use. If the reserved kit has not been charged out to the patron within 15 minutes of the scheduled hour, then the reservation will be deleted.
Procedures
- The Tech Suite may be reserved in person at the Circulation Desk or by contacting a staff member at ext. 5410.
- Each work area may be reserved for up to two hours per group. Longer periods of time will be permitted on an as-available basis if no other groups are scheduled. The two hour time limit will be strictly enforced if others are waiting.
- Each Tech Suite has a supply kit that will be charged out at the Circulation Desk. Each kit contains:
- 1 key to room ($50 replacement charge for key + cost of replacement lock)
- 4 five foot network cables ($15 replacement charge each)
- 2 three foot VGA cables with audio ($60 replacement charge each)
- 1 dry eraser for whiteboard ($10 replacement charge)
- 1 marker set for whiteboard ($15 replacement charge)
- The group(s) that the room is charged out to will be financially responsible for any damage to the room or equipment. Replacement fees will be charged for any missing supplies.
