Hold Requests for Charged Items

WPI library users can place holds on items that are charged out to other users. Requests for holds can still be made in person at the Information Desk, but users may find it more convenient to place hold requests themselves. Library users also may cancel hold requests if an item is no longer needed.

Go Connect to the Library Catalog Now (search for item you'd like to hold, then click request)

To put a hold on a charged item:

  1. Search the Library Catalog and display the information page for the item that you want to request.
  2. Click on Make a Request in the Actions toolbar on the right side of the page.
  3. Make a Request
  4. On the Requests login page, click on "WPI Faculty, Students, and Staff click here to login." Then enter your WPI Network username and password and click Log In on the "Pubcookie" page. (Please note: Users without a WPI login should enter their library barcode number and last name and click OK on the Request login page).
  5. Click on Hold Request in the Patron Requests menu. If, instead of the menu, you see a message that says there are no requests available, there may be a reason why.
  6. Type any comments in the Comments box.
  7. Click on Submit Request at the bottom of the page.
  8. An e-mail notice will be sent to you when the requested item is available.
  9. Click on the Search button to begin a new search.
  10. When you are finished requesting items, click on Logout in the top right corner of the page or on Exit if you wish to end your library catalog session.
  11. For added security, you should always exit completely from your Web browser, especially if you are using a computer in a public location like the library or a computer lab.

(Please note: Users without a WPI Network login account, should enter their library barcode number and last name and click OK on the login page.)
  3. Your library account page will display, listing books currently charged out or renewed; any hold requests that you've made; and any outstanding fines and fees.
  4. Look in the Request Information area for the request(s) that you want to cancel.
  5. Click once in the check box next to each item, and click on Cancel Request.
  6. The page will re-display, and the cancelled items will be gone.
