Types of Article Databases

Where to Connect...

QUICK START - Find Articles

Start at the QUICK START menu on wpi.edu/+library. Next to FIND ARTICLES choose: All Databases and Electronic Resources page. We subscribe to 150 of them.

Databases are organized in A-Z order and by subject area. Each includes a description, years covered, titles included, and an indication of whether full text is included.

2. Subject Databases

If so, use a subject database. These databases specialize in a particular subject, and the articles indexed are generally from scholarly sources. They include more periodical titles and more specialized topics than a general database. Examples of subject databases:

Engineering Village: Compendex Web & INSPEC
Covers various engineering disciplines from 1880s - present. Includes citations and abstracts to articles within journals and conference proceedings. Useful to find information such as case studies from industry on how such things as solar panels are made, as well as academic research on photovoltaics, and other engineering topics.
EBSCOhost Business Source Premier:
Includes full text for 1,000s of scholarly business and management journals, as well as industry reports from Datamonitor on companies and industries. Use to find articles about how companies are doing, how they market products, and to track down information on sales of goods such as number of solar panels sold in the world, or forecasts and trends on the power supply industry.
