Where to Find a Book or Journal
Goodbye to Dewey Decimal, we use the Library of Congress Classification System
Use information from the Gordon Library Catalog record to find the item in the library.
Status
The status line will tell you whether a book is not charged or charged out, lost, or has recently been ordered. Journals cannot be checked out but you can make copies of articles.
Location
Check here to find out in which section of the library this item is located:
- GENERAL COLLECTION indicates a circulating item that can be checked out
- Call numbers beginning with A-N: 3rd Floor
- Call numbers beginning with P-Z: 1st Floor
- PERIODICALS indicates the item is a journal, limited to in-library use only. These do not have call numbers and are arranged in alphabetically.
Call Number
Make note of the call number. It acts as the "address" of an item in the library. To find out which floor to go to in the library you can:
- To find call number ranges, use one of the library's floor directories located by the entrance/exit on each floor, or
- Ask at the Information Desk, or
- Consult the Floor Plans on the web site.
