Philosophy
The Environmental Studies Program at WPI is designed to focus on the diverse aspects of environmental issues and provide education in the methods of scientific, social science, and humanistic analysis. This interdisciplinary program is designed to bring students with varied backgrounds and interests together at different points in their undergraduate careers.
The Environmental Studies Program incorporates project-based learning to enhance the educational experience, engage students in community issues, strengthen professional environmental skills, and promote civic responsibility.
After graduation, students may go on to graduate school in a number of fields, such as environmental studies, environmental law and policy, the natural sciences, resource economics, and environmental health. Environmental Studies majors will also have employment opportunities in such fields as integrated solid waste management, environmental product design and packaging, environmental policy and analysis, environmental planning, hazardous waste mitigation and assessment, environmental advocacy, environmental compliance, environmental management, environmental education, and environmental communications.
Graduates of the Environmental Studies program at WPI will enter the work-force with interdisciplinary knowledge, real-world experience, and the ability to immediately face the environmental problems the world is dealing with today...
