Careers
Professional writing is a rapidly growing field of study and career path that includes technical and scientific communication, writing and editing, information design, public relations, and bilingual communication.
In a global, information-based economy, the demand for professional writers, editors, web authors, translators, and information designers has increased over the last decade. The number of online publications and services has grown dramatically. The continuing expansion of technical and scientific information-and the need to communicate it-has created new opportunities for professional writers.
Professional writers work in business, industry, government, education, health care, nonprofits, community organizations, and citizens groups.
Professional writers design websites, usability studies, and online documentation; they write newsletters, brochures, press releases, scientific articles, environmental impact studies, and grant proposals; they develop health education programs, advertising strategies, and public interest campaigns; they are skilled in digital media, graphic design, and visual communication.
