Project Search Help: Complex

Within any search, you have the choice of inclusive or exclusive selection. If you choose inclusive, then projects selected may have any one of the attributes you have selected. If you choose exclusive, then the projects must have all the attributes you selected. If you are just checking one attribute, it does not make any difference whether the selection is inclusive or exclusive, but if you choose two or more attributes, you broaden the search by using inclusive (including projects which have any one of the attributes) and narrow the search by using exclusive (including only the probjects which have all the marked attributes).

When you have completed a search, you will learn how many projects matched your search criteria. If that is not a large number, the option to display the data will be lit. Click submit to display them. If, in the browser's estimation, there are a large number of matches, the option to combine the results with another search will be lit instead of the display option.

Note that the options to either display or combine the search results are only suggestions. You are free to display the large list or combine the short list, in contradiction of the suggestion. Just click the option and you are in control.

The reason to use the combine action is to narrow the search to specific entries. The way this works is to perform a subsequent search of another criterium and then use that in relation to the search results you have already located. If you find that you have dozens of projects matching your search criteria, you might decide, for example, to eliminate the IQPs from the list, in hopes to have a more managable, shorter list.

If you only want to know about MQPs which had the keyword solar in them, you have to make two searches. You have to search for the keyword and also the project type, and then you must combine the search results in an exclusive way so that only projects with both characteristics are displayed.
