Research Centers

Virtually every new breakthrough in medicine begins as a new discovery in a university laboratory. BEI seeks to identify emerging technologies and nurture them to the point where commercialization can commence. Many of the technologies that will one day become the basis for exciting and important products and businesses through BEI-engineered partnerships will have their origins in the work of faculty and students in the seven multidisciplinary BEI research centers.

These centers enable scientists, engineers, and clinicians to address important research challenges with flexibility and imagination. With a general focus at the intersection of engineering and the life sciences, the centers support basic and applied research aimed at advancing the development of medical sensors, implantable devices, prosthetics, imaging and communications systems, and other medical technologies with the potential to be commercialized. Each center has patent, patent pending, or provisional IP protection for its technologies. BEI is actively seeking corporate partners to help bring these technologies to the marketplace.
