Comparative NeuroImaging

A joint venture between WPI and the University of Massachusetts Medical School (and located at the medical school), the center develops advanced magnetic resonance (MR) imaging techniques for medical applications.

For example, recent advances in noninvasive ultra-high-field MR imaging and spectroscopy, critical tools in cancer research, have produced a breast tumor imaging technique with resolution superior to mammography. The center's facilities provide unprecedented anatomical and spectral resolution for localizing and characterizing tumors and evaluating their growth and response to interventions.

The center is also using ultra-high-field MR is also being used to study the etiology and pathophysiology of mental illness, improving our knowledge of such ailments as depression, addiction, stress, and aggression.
