Camesano heads a research group in bacterial adhesion and interaction forces. The goal of this group is to understand bacterial adhesion, the initial event in biofilm formation. This work has relevance to a number of biomedical and environmental problems, such as microbial colonization of catheters and biomaterials, subsurface bioremediation, prevention of pathogenic microorganisms in drinking water, and the interactions between bacteria and host tissue in the body. Camesano is the author or co-author of more than 25 journal publications and is the recipient of an NSF CAREER Award (2003) and the Sigma Xi Junior Faculty Award for Outstanding Research (2005).
