ACRC 2007 Merton C. Flemings and Ray H. Witt Awardees

The Advanced Casting Research Center (ACRC) of the Metal Processing Institute (MPI) is pleased to announce the winners of the Merton C. Flemings and Ray H. Witt Awards for 2007. Each year the ACRC recognizes two individuals who have made significant contributions to the metal casting industry. These awards will be presented on June 5th at the annual Spring Symposium dinner.

The Merton C. Flemings Award

The Merton C. Flemings Award, established in 1991, is given to an individual who significantly contributed to our understanding of solidification processing fundamentals, which have been applied commercially in the foundry industry. This year's recipient is Mr. Thomas Prucha.

Tom is currently Vice President of Technical Services for American Foundry Society where he oversees the technical department, including research, technical committees and assisting the membership. Prior to starting at AFS he operated a consulting firm, MetalMorphasis LLC, specializing in serving the metal casting & material processing industry.

The Ray H. Witt Award

The Ray H. Witt Award, established in 1999, is given to an individual for his/her leadership in the aluminum casting industry, for investing resources to broaden the technology base; for introducing advanced concepts and techniques; for encouraging the education and training of new talent and for inspiring others to advance the industry through technical achievement. This year the award is given to Mr. Urs Bühler.

Urs Bühler, Chairman of the Board at Bühler AG in Switzerland, has been a champion for advancing the metal casting industry by continuously investing in R&D. After a number of positions inside and outside Switzerland, he became a member of corporate management of Bühler AG in 1975, in charge of sales and development.

From 1980 to 1984, he was President of Bühler GmbH, Braunschweig/Germany and in 1986, Urs Bühler was appointed CEO of Bühler AG, Uzwil/Switzerland. Mr. Bühler handed over the executive management duties of Bühler AG to Calvin Grieder at the start of 2001. Urs Bühler has been a member of the Board since 1981, from 1991 as its Vice-Chairman.
