Creating a new objects conservation program in the field of metals
May 27 - June 7, 2006
The application deadline is January 15, 2006.
Experience hands-on, lab-based opportunities to investigate the fields of metallurgy and conservation from a new perspective, using the combined facilities, faculties and collections of nationally recognized museums and universities. Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is a national leader in metals research and home to the Metal Processing Institute (MPI), a research leader in the field of metal properties for industrial application. The Higgins Armory Museum (AAM-accredited) has one of the largest collections of historical and archaeological metals in the nation, famous primarily for its extraordinary arms and armor. The program will provide participants with an opportunity to handle a wide range of metals collections from the Higgins Armory Museum. MPI/WPI and the Higgins Armory Museum collectively offer unique laboratory facilities and access to important historical metals conservation as well as research expertise that will guarantee the international significance and quality of this project.
