International Students
Summer Session- Visiting International Students
International students who wish to attend Worcester Polytechnic Institute's Summer Sessions as visiting students may enter the United States on a J-1 or an F-1 visa and must register full-time, which is defined as three or four courses. In order to obtain the appropriate visa document and required information, please go the International House's web site at www.wpi.edu/international.
In addition to the Registration Request for Visiting Students, international students must submit the following materials to the International House no later than April 1, 2008:
- A completed I-20/DS 2019 Request Form, available at
- All financial documents specified in the I-20/DS 2019 Request Form; failure to submit proper documentation delays the visa process.
- A copy of your Test of English as a Foreign Language score report showing a minimum score of 100 (internet), 600 (paper), or 250 (electronic).
WPI's International Office processes the request and, upon approval, generates a visa eligibility document. This document is mailed to the address indicated on your I-20/DS 2019 Request Form. If you have questions regarding visa issues, please e-mail the International Office at ih@wpi.edu.
Prior to arrival on campus, international students must also submit an Admission Health Record Form to prove that they meet the entrance health requirements mandated by Massachusetts law. If you have questions about these requirements, or any additional questions, please contact the International House at ih@wpi.edu or via telephone at 508-831-6030.
If you have any further questions regarding Visiting Student Registration please contact theRegistrar's Office at 508-831-5211 or call the WPI Visiting Student Hotline at 508-831-5517 or email summer@wpi.edu
ESL Summer Institute
The Program
The ESL Summer Institute at WPI is an intensive five-week program specifically designed for international students planning to study engineering or science in the United States. The classroom instruction integrates reading, writing, speaking and listening skills and pays special attention to the everyday use of spoken English in a technological academic setting at WPI.
There are two intake dates when students may enroll in the ESL Summer Institute. Students may choose to enroll for the full 5 weeks or start with the second intake. Conditionally admitted undergraduate students, however, must enroll for the full five weeks.
