About The Award
One day you'll change the world because a teacher changed your life.
The idea of the Technological Humanist has been at the heart of WPI's approach to education since its founding in 1865. Located in Worcester, Mass., WPI was the first university to understand that students learn best when they have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they gain in the classroom to the solution of important problems.
WPI would like to honor outstanding high school teachers who embrace the philosophy of Technological Humanism in their classrooms and encourage students to understand the impact of science and math in our society.
Three Massachusetts teachers will be selected to receive this honor. Several other teachers will receive honorable mention awards.
- Recipients of first-, second- and third-place awards will receive $5,000, $2,500 and $1,500, respectively, to be used for equipment, professional development or other activities that enhance education at their schools. In addition, the award recipients will receive a distinctive trophy recognizing their achievements to display in their schools.
- Honorable mention recipients will receive a certificate of achievement.
- All honorees--along with the students who nominated them, their families and their school principals--will be invited to an awards dinner at WPI on May 6, 2004. The students will read their nomination essays as part of the evening's events.
