Dean of Undergraduate Studies (Boynton Hall, first floor)
John A. Orr is Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Orr joined WPI in 1977 and served as head of the ECE department from 1988 to 2003. He received the BS and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign, and the MS degree in EE from Stanford University. At WPI Dr. Orr's research interests include positioning systems, particularly indoor tracking and location. His other professional interest is in the area of engineering education where he has been involved in curriculum development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as in assessment and accreditation activities. Dr. Orr is a Fellow of the IEEE and a member of the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission.
Associate Dean for the First Year (Boynton Hall, first floor)
Arthur Heinricher is Associate Dean for the First Year Experience and Professor Mathematical Sciences. Dr. Heinricher joined the faculty of WPI in 1992, with a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon. At WPI Art's teaching has focused on first and second year students; he has also been very active in advising MQP's and IQP's. He also has extensive experience in the pre-college area, including the "Mathematics in Industry Institutes for Teachers," and the "Focus on Mathematics Partnership" programs. Art has served as PI on a very successful REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program that has brought college math students from across the nation to WPI in the summers.
Director of Academic Advising (Daniels Hall, first floor)
Dale Snyder joined WPI in 1998 as Director of the Academic Resources Center after retiring from the U.S. Navy. In 2004, she assumed the position of Director of Academic Advising. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire and her Masters degree in Education Administration from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Director of Disability Services (Daniels Hall, first floor)
JoAnn Van Dyke first joined WPI in 1973 as a part-time Registered Nurse in the Health Center. In 1990 she became the Director of the Health Center and in 1996 she also became the Chair of the Student Disability Services Committee. In 2001, JoAnn left the Health Center and became the Student Disability Services Coordinator and in 2004 she also assumed the position of Director of Academic Resources. JoAnn graduated from Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in 1967 and was certified in College Health Nursing in October, 1992. She is a member of the Association for Higher Education and Disabilities (AHEAD).
Associate Director of First Year Advising Programs (Daniels Hall, first floor)
Connie Peppes is the Associate Director of Academic Advising for the First Year. Connie joined WPI in 2005 and served as Assistant Director of Student Activities through September 2006 prior to her current position. She has received a B.A. in International Studies from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY, and a M.S. in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Student Development from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT.
